It’s been a while since we had the opportunity to provide a Mystery Holiday and so be prepared to experience the warms of the Channel Sea or the chills of the Scottish Glens. Pack a case with all the essentials just in case you must shelter from the rain or bask in the glorious sunshine. One thing we can promise is the usual quality and service provided by Hollinsheads and as this is a Mystery Tour, we also guarantee a bed and a kettle. Enjoy the majestic City of Leeds on Friday for some retail therapy, sightseeing or urban exploration, before making our way to your hotel to relax and recuperate. Our short stay at The Leeds Mercure Parkway Hotel, in its beautiful grounds offers a unique base for this mini break. On Saturday, The Wakefield Food, Drink and Rhubarb Festival will be in full swing. The festival centres on the Cathedral precinct and the Bull Ring in Wakefield with other parts of the city joining in with fringe and food events to celebrate all things rhubarb. There are many unique Rhubarb goodies on offer, all with tastings of course. Wrapped up by an exciting entertainment programme including cookery demonstrations, street performers, comedy acts and live music, the Wakefield Rhubarb Festival is a vibrant addition to Yorkshire’s calendarWe had many disappointed customers (Norma) who missed out on this when we ran it as a mystery tour. Unfortunately, the front seat has been reserved for this holiday. (Sadly the Rhubarb Farm is closed until 2023.) We return home after our busy weekend eating, drinking and hopefully being merry via The Trafford Centre for some last-minute purchases or just to wander around the massive site.

Staying at the Tinto Hotel, Biggar which offers an ideal base in South Lanarkshire to explore local places of interest such as The Rosslyn Chapel as featured in the movie “The Da Vinci Code” and onto the capital City of Edinburgh, with its historic buildings and magnificent Castle. Another day excursion will take in the beautiful seaside town of Ayr, en-route you will visit Dumfries House which is part of the Prince’s Foundation with an unrivalled collection of Chippendale furniture. Regarded as one of Britain’s best kept heritage secrets, with sumptuous interiors and magnificent furnishings. Finally, a visit to the historical spar town of Moffat and then returning to the hotel for afternoon Cream Tea.

The Cotswolds speak for themselves as one of most beautiful parts of The British Isles. Quaint villages dotted along medieval roads and unblemished countryside makes this a must destination for relaxation, staying at the Stourport Manor Sure Hotel, Stourport on Severn. We have two guided tours for you to enjoy, one is based on the world’s longest running radio drama, based on the ‘everyday lives of country folk’ ‘The Archers’ it will take you through the fictional ‘Borsetshire’ villages, the afternoon will be spent on ‘The Blossom Trail’ which will explore the numerous varieties and colours of the fruit trees of The Cotswolds. On Sunday you will be exploring Worcester and an opportunity to visit the Cathedral.

Whilst there you will explore The Elan Valley Visitors Centre to take in the beautiful scenery followed by free time in Llandrindod Wells. Travelling through Mid Wales to Llandovery and onto Brecon for a relaxing cruise on the Brecon and Monmouthshire waterway. An excursion through the picturesque Welsh Mountains and into Aberystwyth for a breath of ‘sea air’.

Make a visit to The Welsh Capital City for a break with a difference. You will be guided though The Royal Mint Visitors Centre and experience a once in a lifetime opportunity to see The Cardiff Arms Park Choir rehearsal. A Guide will direct you though the City and the renovated Cardiff Bay as seen in a number of BBC ‘Dr.Who’ and Torchwood’ episodes. A must visit while in Cardiff is the well-maintained Medieval Castle with its Victorian Gothic Mansion, built from the remains of the Roman Fort and Walls of Cardiff. Our base will be The Angel Hotel positioned in the centre of the city and conveniently placed near all the popular landmarks and retail outlets. The Hotel restaurant features an ever-changing menu of seasonal dishes, created using high quality ingredients from local producers.

Our first destination is in the shadow of Ben Nevis for an overnight stop at Fort William. The following day sees us travelling north to Kyle of Lochalsh and over the bridge to Skye, then onto our second stop for two nights at The Dunollie Hotel. On Skye you will be treated to a tour of the Isle, with a stop at the main town of Portree provide by a local coach company. We journey to Armadale for ferry back onto the mainline at Mallaig and then travelling across the ‘Road of the Isle’ to Lochaline for a short afternoon crossing to Fishnish on the Isle of Mull, passing the cliff top Duart Castle en-route to Isle of Mull Hotel & Spa. There is a scenic journey across the Isle to Fionnphort, with an opportunity to visit via a foot passenger crossing to the Isle of Iona and visit the Abbey, the resting place of 48 ancient Scottish Kings. Taking the morning crossing from Craignure to Oban for some free time in the town before making our way to our final overnight stop at Arrochar Hotel, then returning south the following day.

Catching a mid-afternoon ferry from Holyhead to our destination at The Arklow Bay Hotel, situated on the outskirts of the town of Arklow and set within the beautiful grounds. The Hotel has a separate building for leisure facilities, which include sauna, jacuzzi, steam room and pool. During the holiday there will be excursions which include The Powerscourt Estate Gardens and Waterfall, which was used as a backdrop for the 2002 version of ‘The Count of Monte Cristo.’ A trip to The Irish National Stud with its Japanese Gardens, described as the finest Japanese Gardens in Europe. Enjoy a guided tour of Wicklow Mountains and the Vale of Avoca, the town was used to film the BBC series ‘Ballykissangel.

Your journey North crosses the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, passing through sleepy villages and unbroken scenery. Day trips include Bowes Museum to see the internationally significant collections of fine and decorative arts, a full day to explore the City of Durham and a visit to Raby Castle, which is surrounded by 200 acres of lush green parkland, where herds of fallow deer live wild. Finally, to see High Force Waterfall, where the River Tees had plunged down into the gorge for thousands of years, reveal the amazing rock features below.

Once again, we pay a visit to The Kensington Hotel for a summer vacation. The Hotel is a classically styled Victorian, seafront property prominently positioned on the central promenade with spectacular views of the Great Orme and Llandudno Bay. Travelling to our Hotel we will make a stop at the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct at Trevor for a 45 minute cruise on a narrow boat across the 126ft high aquaduct above the River Dee. Saturday is free for all your retail therapy needs in Llandudno and on Sunday we will visit Penrhyn Castle to see the Walled Garden and to view the Penrhyn Collection. As we return home, we will stop in Chester to explore the history of the ancient City or to wander the shops looking for bargains.

Making an early start as we travel south to Poole Harbour for boarding the mid-afternoon ferry to St.Helier on Jersey. (There are reserved seats on the ferry, but not in the Horizon Lounge). Spending 4 nights at The Merton Hotel, St. Helier which has been delighting guests for over 90 years and is Jersey's biggest resort hotel offering an unbeatable range of facilities for guests to enjoy. Situated just 10 minutes walk away from the Town centre, this is an ideal base for Island explorers. Whilst on the Island you will be given a guided tour of Jersey provided by a local company in minibuses and you will be treated to wine tasting at La Mare Wine Estate at St Marys. We return home on the morning ferry to Poole and a leisurely journey north.

Our Autumn tints tour of Wales starts off with a short coffee break at the Grosvenor Garden Centre, then journey through mid Wales to Llangollen and along the Horseshoe Pass to Betws-Y-Coed for a comfort stop before reaching the Kensington Hotel, Llandudno. Saturday, we offer a breath-taking route around the Snowdonia National Park, with time to explore Porthmadog and returning to the Hotel through the beautiful Ffestiniog Slate Quarries. Sunday is a short day trip to the Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch retail outlet, followed by free time in the afternoon to enjoy Llandudno. Our homeward journey will stop off in Liverpool for a few hours.

Join us for our umpteenth trip to the Thursford Music Spectacular for its Christmas glitz and glamour. Our base will be the excellent Wensum Valley Hotel, we will travel there via Springfields shopping outlet near Spalding and return home with a visit to Boundary Mill at Grantham. As usual the show changes dramatically each year, but it always offers an experience to remember. We have got Matinee tickets for the show, in some of the best seats in the house. The morning of the show we will spend time in the lovely seaside town of Sheringham for a breath of sea air and maybe an ice cream.

A shuttle bus will transfer you into Dunster Village, where this remarkably preserved medieval village turns its back on the present and lights its streets with lanterns and where possible candles in the houses. The whole place is alive with music and entertainment.
